On your doorstep

On your doorstep

The ancient village of Andermatt lies at the intersection of four Alpine passes: the Gotthard Pass to Southern Switzerland, the Schöllenen Gorge to the North, the Furka to the West and the Oberalp Pass to the Surselva region. For centuries, these natural crossroads acted as major trade routes – and today you still feel this openness towards newcomers in the famously welcoming local community.

The many faces of Andermatt

“No two days are the same in my job. Lush greenery in summer, pristine snow in winter: the mountain landscape is an ever-changing tableau” David, host at restaurant Gütsch by Markus Neff

CULINARY DELIGHTS Experience dining like never before at one of Andermatt’s three famed Michelin-starred restaurants. Try one or both locations of The Japanese for Eastern-inspired flavours, or enjoy regional cuisine at the summit when you dine at the luxurious Gütsch by Markus Neff. Both are located on top of the Gütsch mountain with wonderful views across the valley and are open in the winter and summer months.

“Andermatt is like a miniature city, where I can enjoy world-class culture amid stunning natural beauty.” Lena, local resident

WHERE OUTDOORS MEETS CULTURE Andermatt is perfect for night owls and early birds alike. During the day you can hike up a mountain, play a round of golf on the multi-award-winning golf course or browse the selection of shops in Andermatt Reuss. And once the sun dips behind the mountains, you can wind down with a fine-dining meal, followed by a night of classical music at Andermatt’s concert hall.

“After many years of doing what I do, I still love seeing the impressive mountain panorama unfold before my eyes – every single day” Johan, gondola operator

PERFECT POWDER Snow-sure and well-maintained, Andermatt’s slopes are what winter dreams are made of. There are 180 kilometres of freshly groomed pistes, meaning that all skiers of all levels are welcome – whether you’re an avid freerider or prefer more leisurely slaloms down the mountain. And because a ski day isn’t complete without some après-ski in the sun, dust the snow of your trousers and stop at one of the many mountain bars for a refreshing apéritif.

“With activities for all seasons, Andermatt is a fantastic year-round destination for the whole family to enjoy.” Marie, Torsten and Noa, holidaymakers

FUN FOR EVERYONE During the winter months, the ski school located at Nätschen is the optimal place for skiing novices with qualified instructors offering group and private lessons for adults and children. When the snow has cleared, the region becomes a paradise for nature lovers big and small. The Ursern Valley boasts a number of protected wildlife reserves, home to a diverse fauna including chamois, ibex, red deer and marmots. It’s the perfect time to get outside with the family and spot your favourite animals.
